Ranipuram hills

RANIPURAM HILLS Ranipuram, the hill station village is situated in the Vellarikkundu Taluk of Kasaragod district.

The hill station is situated about 750 m above sea level. The peaks of the hills station rises to around 1020 metres above sea level. Ranipuram was earlier known as the Madathumala. It is adjacent to the Kottancheri and Tala Kaveri mountain belt in the Western Ghats. The area under Ranipuram is protected by the Forest Department of Kerala.

Ranipuram is abundant with varied vegetation, evergreen shola woods, monsoon forests and grasslands – all at once in the same region! It’s a best spot for Trekking trails and exploring the wilderness of Nature! The splendid beauty of this place makes everyone pause for a click or two! The extensive forest ranges of Ranipuram merges with the nearby forests of Karnataka. The rich grasslands and forests cater for wildlife like misty moors, monkeys and wild elephants in the area.

Ranipuram is a great getaway for camps and trekking enthusiasts. It will make your mind fresh and body active during the steep climbs! Ranipuram peak is presently in the proposed Ranipuram Wildlife Sanctuary, which in turn merges with the Tala Kaveri Wildlife Sanctuary in the State of Karnataka, which is around 40 k.m away.

Once known as ‘Madathumala’, Ranipuram is a true gift of the Mother Nature! Located in the Kasargod region, it is among the least explored and virgin hill stations in Kerala! Fondly called the ‘Queen of Grasslands’, it is perched at an astounding height of 2,460ft above the sea level, and is a home to a captivating range of flora and fauna.

Rock Tour : Blessed with cool climatic conditions the place is ideal for trekking along trails that facilitate uphill and downhill climbing. A soft trek to the hilltop offers you a panoramic view of the hills around. The journey is made much easier by the steps that are laid out in certain places in the track. It is better to start trekking in the morning itself. The rocks are slippery and are not ideal for trekking in the twilight. Since leeches are very common here travelers are advised to take good boots and carry salt with them.
