ST THERESA’S SHRINE, MAHESt Theresa’s Shrine, Mahe, belongs to the diocese of Calicut is a famous Shrine and an antique church in South India dedicated to the mystic saint Theresa of Avila. It is also oane of the important historical landmarks in the region. The history of the establishment of the shrine is very mystifying due to its antiquity and there are many myths surrounding it. The discovery of a very valuable document “De Missione Mahiensi in Malabaribus Commentarius written by Fr Ignatius Hyppolitus OCD in 1757 from the Carmelite Archive in Rome was a turning point in the reconstruction of the history of this ancient Church.

ST. ALPHONSA SYRO MALABAR CHURCH Syro-Malabar Catholic Church is one of the most ancient Eastern Christian communities in the universal Church. It's origin is traced to St. Thomas the Apostle who preached Good News in Kerala, India. Although the arrival of Western missionaries was a land mark in the history of church in India,it was with Vatican II that there was a real awakening in the Syro-Malabar Church. This resulted in the sincere search for the church's lost identity as an Apostolic and Eastern Church. The most remarkable achievement was the establishment of new missions in defferent parts of India in which missionaries were sent all over the world. Thus, the St. Thomas Syro-Malabar diocese was established on July 1, 2001, the fiost Syro—Malabar diocese in a foreign country. It encompasses the entire United States of America and has its headquarters in Chicago, Illinois

The place provides a spectacular view of the backwaters surrounded by mangrove forests and the Ezhimala hills. The mangrove forests are home to a number of exotic birds and is a birdwatcher's delight. The main highlight of this place is a 3 m wide, 250 m long (approx.) walkway constructed over the backwaters which offers a scenic view of the place.
